Bruce Rayment’s Port Hacking GFC boat Avalon was at it again yesterday tagging another black marlin, a 1.8m short length 50kg model in 75 fathoms SE of Port Hacking. A 15 minute fight on 24kg tackle saw a strong fish released for first time angler Dale Alexander.
And message from Adam Polly’s boat Mistress fishing out of Jervis Bay on Monday and Tuesday.
On Monday they found a patch of bait by themselves in 25 fathoms and had a med sized stripe up in prop wash in first 5 mins of putting baits in water. Adam says that while they saw the boil as the bait was taken, it looked as there may have a really big brown something behind the stripe. The fish didn’t jump and after 20 minutes they figured that brown something was a big shark, when all of a sudden 160 kgs plus of black marlin came jumping out of the water! They straightened the hook when we leadering him some 90 mins later.
Back on the bait and 5 mins later another 100 kg black, then another 60 kgs finishing the day 3 from 4.
On Tuesday they followed up with 2 from 4 one at 25 kg (black) then another 110 plus black at Banks on 15 kg – and taking them 9 kms out to sea in a 2 hour fight. Adam says from what they have seen and heard on the radio there were quite a few 100 kg plus blacks being caught.
