What a day on the GBR with fishing firing for those in the right place at the right time – particularly on the southern to middle Ribbons.
When you have a good day, it makes up for any quiet ones previous. That was certainly the case for Capt. Brett Goetze on Reel Chase who released two from three yesterday in the big fish category that he put at 900+ and 700lbs in the Middle. Brett says that both fish were to first time reef visitors who are no doubt already planing their next trip back.
Down the bottom, Capt. Simon Carosi on Afishionado also released two at 850 and 150lbs. Ditto that for Capt. Brad Craft on Castille back in the middle who reported over the radio 9 bites releasing two that he also put at 850 and a smaller fish. And Capt. Adam Jordan on Iona 2 also had the bites releasing 2 from 5 including one at 500lbs (photo from Mustard on Iona above).
Capt. Corey Hard tells me they’ve been having an awesome trip on Askari. They jumped off a nice fish about 900lbs on Tuesday and caught a little one. Yesterday they followed up with a fish that Corey put at 600lbs.
Capt. Hayden Bell on Release reported one from a double header. Capt. Jim Dalling on Billy The Kid reported one as well. And Capt. Damon Gruzdev on Port Douglas based Kyrenia also released one at 450lbs which was a first marlin for angler Lucas Constanti. Congratulations Lucas!
And Capt. Jared Weir’s Shaka is back on the reef and released one yesterday and had another three bites with Capt. Ashley Wallis’ Kalira nearby releasing two and Capt. Graham “Johhno” Johnson’s Shikari with one as well. Hopefully this run continues!
More catch up photos this time stills below from the GoPro footage aboard Lucy West of their big fish during the comp. Awesome fish!!
