Day 6 started out small with two fish totaling a 170lbs making up the entire first two sends – 70lbs on Black Label and 100lbs on Onsite respectively.

But later in the day a couple of big fish made up for it. Capt. Jim Dalling on Billy The Kid reported one at 750lbs for owner Bill Pullman after an extended fight, and then Capt. Trent Vischer on Iona II reported one for John Strako that he put at 1000lbs after a quick fight.

Overall it was a slower day with only 10 fish tagged by my count for the now condensed fleet most of whom were fishing at Number 10 Ribbon Reef.  But its making for a closer finish with Top Shot on 7 for the last few days, with Althaldo narrowing the gap to sit on one behind with 6 tags yesterday. Closely following again from them o 5 tags each Bite Me, Kanahoee, Onsite and Calypso.  On 4 tags each Viking II, Little Audrey, Moana III and Everwilling.  On 3 tags each Askari, Reel Chase, Kalira and Iona II. On 2 each, Afishionado, The Outlaw, Mistress, Lucy West and Billy The Kid. On 1 each Cgirl, Carolyn, Hellraiser, Think Big, Black Label and Kyrenia.

I heard from Sea Fever’s Capt. Ashley Matthews who is on route to Cairns reports fishing north of Myrmidon reef on Thursday. They caught a bunch of yellow fin tuna an also released an estimated 600 lb blue marlin, and then followed up with another big black marlin estimated at 850lb. They also had another bite from another black around 300lb but failed to hookup. Sounds like the fishing will be good off Townsville this year!
