Some really good days fishing over the past few days for boats in the hot spot. Capt. Ashley Matthew’s Reel Easy has just started his season and the timing was right for him to get right into it. He fished Monday for a 5 from 6 at 150, 200, 250, 500 and 900 all for 79 years young English angler Ian who is fishing the reef for the first time.
They followed up on Tuesday with one at 250lbs.
Capt. Daniel Klein’s Cookie had the same hot fishing the previous day with 5-5-5 Sunday including fish at 600, 500 and 400lbs and followed up Monday with 2 from 5.
Capt. Tim Richardson’s Tradition finished up a big trip with Ken with another big fish yesterday. That makes the trip tally 11 fish, including an 800 on the last day and a 900 earlier in the week.
Capt. Scotty Thorrington on Gorilla has followed up with another good fish this week, one that he put at 900lbs on Monday.
Some video from a big fish on Capt. Mark Parkinson’s Black Label last week here.
Image at top a fish from angler Bart Carey from Capt. Luke Fallon’s KEKOA also on Monday that Luke put at 750lbs.

Sunshine Coast
Often overshadowed by Cairns at this time of year I’ve been hearing of some great fishing off the Sunshine Coast. This one is from SCGFC’s Neville Martens who fished heavy tackle at the Noosa Canyons on Shearwater on Saturday. Neveille said the water is getting better and was 23.6 C with a very strong 4 knot plus current. They dropped a good size blue marlin early with Damian Parker on the rod, but managed to get a nice striped marlin that they called 250 lbs to stick and this was to be Kevin Muirhead’s first heavy tackle fish. The fish ate a Pukula Lumo sprocket in the long rigger.
