The Fraser hot bite had a misstep yesterday with some boats not turning a reel all day in water on average a degree hotter than the same time last week.
We were lucky on Capt. Luke Fallon’s KEKOA to wind up our marlin season on a high with 3 fish (2 blues and a black marlin) which put us on 25 marlin (20 blues, 3 blacks and 2 stripes) for the 7 days of fishing. And that’s a wrap for us for 2017.
Heading home himself and stopping overnight at Fraser was Capt. Craig “Sparra” Denham’s Hot Shot and while the Fraser waters didn’t produce for them, they found the fish a good 40 miles south going 3 from 5 on the blues there as well as raising another that didn’t bite.
Jay Graham on Chaos took a bit of ribbing in his stride yesterday and happily one-upped the Pole Dancer crew with a stripe (photo) and a black marlin. The were also very unlucky going 0 from 4 on blues not to convert the slam. Final tally for the day was 6-6-2 while Pole Dancer added a blue late for just the one for the day but 10 from 16 blues in the three days of fishing!
The boys on the looking fab O’Brien Boats 33 refitted O’Bsession also got a black and a blue early and were looking for a stripe for their slam.
And catching up from their last trip in Cairns Capt. Corey Hard on Askari reports they have just done a 5 dayer which we had trouble with small fish eating big baits but managed only 4 from 14 and the good thing was that they also went 2 from 3 on big ones catching an 800 and 650 on the same day and missing another around the 700 mark.
After their first day on Tera Ferma after 54 days straight they also did a day trip trip before the Ribbons catching 3 from 3 including an 800, 400 and 150lb-er.
With the Ladies on board for the Ribbons it was a disappointing day for the team going 0 from 2 only managing a nice yellow fin tuna. This morning they have just set off on a Coral Sea adventure for 7 day to wrap up what has been an epic season for team Hardcore!
