Some questions answered for those following for Lizard Island this year. Thanks to everyone keeping me up-to-date. I will update this post again about 11:30am when the pre-fishing round up is done (updated at bottom).
Tentatively:
It was a slower day on the reef yesterday but what does slow mean when there are still big fish around? In the tournament there were no fish on the first sked but by the second, Capt. Daniel McCarthy’s Moana III had tagged their first of the day, a fish Dan put at 400lbs which was also satellite tagged for the Great Marlin Race. But it was his second fish that made the most impact with him tagging one he estimated at 1200lbs later in the day.
There are a couple of boats on two tags each and while I hear that Mike and Debbie Dobbin’s Hattitude (with Hawaii’s Piper Sport Fishing’s Jeff Kahl on board) may be in the lead on countback, that is yet to be confirmed. I heard that Capt. Daniel Carlson’s Little Audrey is also on two tags. While Capt. Darren “Biggles” Haydon on Bounty Hunter also confirmed for me his big fish on Day 1 that he estimated at 850bls!
There are 20 boats fishing this year’s tournament.
