While it seemed a slower day on the radio on Day 2, there were still 20 tags recorded for the day so the fishing still hanging in there, again, mostly the smaller fish. And for those on top of the leaderboard on Day 1, it seemed like it all just picked up where you left off!
Capt. Chris “Sharky” Miles’ on Levante was first to report a tag with a 200lb-er for Stuart 20 minutes into fishing. After that it was steady steady for the rest of the day.
Capt. Laurie Wright’s charge Think Big was quick to make up for some missed opportunities on Day 1 adding three fish on Day 2 all for Sharon in the 90 (!) to 175lb range. That’ puts Sharon on 4 tags herself and the leading female angler. According to my records Think Big were the first boat to three tags for the day which should also give them the daily.
In the leading group after Day 1, Reel Easy, quickly followed by Iceman just a minute later, each tagged their first of the day. Reel Easy ended up with another 3 tags on Day 2 to put them on top while Iceman missed a couple of more chances tagging two. Never to be left behind, Capt. Corey Hard’s Askari started their run shortly after also tagging three in total for the day.
From the Port Hacking contingent, Just Chill missed a couple of chances while Capt. Daniel Klein’s Cookie converted theirs with two fish for Peter Talbot in the 200lb range.
Once again there was one big fish that came to play with an estimated 800lb-er sat tagged on Capt. Bill Billson’s Viking II. Unfortunately the fish ate two baits and so was self disqualified for tournament purposes. Upon Tournament Base’s request for the angler’s name, Bill’s response was “Well there were two.” :-) (George & Geoff for those interested.)
Jim Stenning on Tsukiji with Capt. Peter Jenyns also added his second tag for the tournament. Capt. Ross Finlayson’s Top Shot also tagged for Tominori to put them on two overall (sorry about my miscount yestereday! Report fixed now). Jack Moore on Duyfken got the Moore team on the board as well. Likewise to the Townsville based Burgendy Lady with a 200lber to Trent. And Sue on Hellraiser also tagged her second fish of the tournament late in the day.
The leadboard currently stands at (once again pointing out that this is just my results from radio watch):
Capt. Ashley Matthews’ Reel Easy in the lead with 6 tags on countback to Askari also on 6. Capt. Bobby Jones’ Iceman in third with 5 tags clear. Think Big likewise in 4th with four tags. Cookie in the clear on three tags in 5th. On two tags on countback, Entourage, KEKOA, Tsukiji, Top Shot and Hellraiser. On one tag on countback (tag order) Hot Shot, Amokura, Wild Turkey, Kalira, Topless, Zulu, Assegai, Reel Shock, Duyfken and Burgundy Lady.
Outside the tournament I haven’t heard too much although there are fish being caught, many keeping away from the radio mayhem. Capt. Tim Richardson’s Tradition went one from two on a double header while Capt. Haydon Bell’s Kanahoee is also still picking away having already converted a couple yesterday on last check.
As always, any errors or omissions please let me know!

Kelly you do an awesome job of reporting. Always reading your site and watching from NZ .
Thanks Roddy! It all might come to an end for tourney reporting from tomorrow if they get the lizard repeater online though. We’re a bit too far away to hear that one so we might all be in the dark after that :-)
