GAMEX Day 6, Friday March 18
The final day’s fishing of GAMEX 2016 also brought the best conditions of the week. As it has been right throughout the tournament, the billfishing was again quiet by Exmouth’s world class standards, although crews that headed north of North West Cape to fish around the oil and gas rigs continued to find reasonable action on blue marlin. Stormy and French Maid were among these boats, with both crews tagging blues estimated at 200kg.
Day six billfish stats were –
Marlin 88-62-19
Sailfish 7-4-2
Competitors focusing on the line class sections spent their last day of competition looking to bolster their species list, and as a result a wide variety of species were weighed in across the 1-10kg line classes, including longtail and mack tuna, queenfish, gold-spot trevally, dolphin fish, spangled emperor and Spanish mackerel. Will Roche fishing on Salty Dog scored a 16.3kg Spanish mackerel on 8kg line which is a pending WA junior record.
