Gold Coast blues, blacks, blues, blacks, blues…blacks!
The Gold Coast seems to have it all again this year, with the SPSGFC postponing their Blue Marlin Bash due to weather, one GCGFC crew made the decision to fish inshore for the little blacks, and notched up a couple of the best day’s fishing that you could hope for. Mat Stehmann’s Murphy Law (who were pipped at the post for champion QLD tag boat last year) have buffered their numbers for this year with a spectacular two days of fishing ending with 48 black marlin tags in the two days.
Fishing with father John, Andrew Morely and Sean Gilbert on board – and on 8kg tackle – the stats were 33-33-29 on Friday and 29-26-19 yesterday. Mat said that most of the fish were in the 25-35kg range with some bigger 60-80kg fish which gave them a workout on the lighter tackle.
John Stehmann tagged 18, Andy Morley tagged 16 and Sean Gilbert 14 in the action which saw them with only 3 fish on the board by 10:30 am Friday and then mayhem including 6 double hookups after. Mat said that sometimes they had trouble keeping a bait in the water for more then a minute before it was piled on!
Spectacular. Well done to the team!

With the NGFC East Coast Classic on it sounds like another great weekend for blues down there. Andy Bagnall is fishing on Fritto 2 for the comp who recorded a 3 from 4 including a nice one about 300lb on 15kg to a junior angler. Andy said lots of blues caught amongst the fleet with most boats getting 1 or 2. Scotty Thorington’s Freedom got one for marlin number 99 for the season.
While Simon Rinaldi’s Red Hot Fishing charters tells me they’ve had a great week on the blues getting between 1 and 5 shots a day. Some of his great shots at top!
