Seems like SEQ is not the only spot with a hot blue marlin bite at present as reports filter in from Port post Interclub. On Tuesday, fittingly International Women’s Day, Calypso’s Capt. Timmy Dean’s better half Rebecca put in a massive 6.5hrs fight on 20lb with a blue before unfortunately pulling the hook. What a superwoman effort (especially with no harness Bec!)
Capt. Brett Thomas also tells me he had a ride along with the crew on The Sherriff also on Tuesday. Brett says they were unlucky to convert only 1 from 7 blues and they also saw another couple more that didn’t bite. He said that most fish are in the 80 to 160kg with the odd bigger one and that most boats are getting at least 4 bites per day on blues off Sydney at the moment!
Capt. Scotty Thorrington’s Freedom has been getting into a few as well adding two blues to his season tally on Wednesday, and a blue and a black again yesterday.
For those interested in more from the Interclub, Nigel sent me some links from photog John Curnow of both photos, more photos and videos from the event. Nigel said that 102 boats and 497 anglers participated with the tournament coming down to the wire, and the winners only decided on the 4th day.
South Coast Fires again
Richie Abela on fire yesterday – and seem like he’s not the only one – with a 9-9-7 yesterday.
Tassie Swords
And young Locki Nichols put in a mammoth 8hr fight with a sword yesterday with the beast eventually going 318kgs! Follow Locki’s fishing page here.
