What a great finish to another great year of fishing at Back to Tanga. Capt. Russell Caphorn’s Kaizen put on a spectacular display with 7 from 10 over the two days fishing including 4 from 6 on blues on Day 1 (blues x 2 to Lachlan, 1 to Ben Kelly and 1 to Ethan Harrington which was a first of species for him). On Day 2 there were off to a quick start with start fishing at 0700 and their first tag at 0723 (black marlin). Adding a stripe for Ethan (another first) and a blue as well for the grand slam and back to back wins!
Not to be outdone there were some other great results including a pending QLD Smallfry record for young Ryan Thomsen with a 26.8kg black on 8kg line with not only the blues playing the game out wide, but the inshore blacks also playing along particularly on Day 2 with other highlights including Dragon Lady with 4 from 9.
The fish seem to be all the way along with Capt. Bobby Jones’ Merlin on the Gold Coast also reporting 3 from 3 blues yesterday including one that Capt. Ross McCubbin (on deck) put at a tiny 40kg! Mufasa Sport Fishing also converted one from four Saturday and one from 2 Sunday.
Also outside the tournament but up in the other direction, Col and Kylie Hombsch’s Reel Action spent the weekend off Fraser for 3 blue marlin, 1 black marlin and 2 wahoo in some unfriendly conditions.
Official MBGFC Back to Tanga Report with a huge thanks to President Nick Currey who took the time to send in after a big day cleaning up on the island! Photos with thank to Nick, Wayne Thomsen on Team Garmin and Lachlan Tuckwell on Kaizen.
