Troy Frith from the old Frito, then Frito 1 and now Frito 2 (love consistency of names Troy!!) reports of a hot bite off Swansea during the Australia Day long weekend. They had very nice 23.8deg blue water and heaps of bait until the marlin and dolpins ate it all. Boats fishing the area got a mixed bag of stripe marlin and blacks mostly on lures.
Troy reports that a few of the blacks were in the 70-80kg range with the stripes pushing 80-90kg. Frito 2 ended the day 5-5-3. One stripe and two blacks and jumping one off which was a double header – a bit too much action with just Troy and 11 year old son Cooper on board. They also lost another later in the day. Cooper, caught all the fish and was well worn out after the last one, an estimated 70kg black marlin on 10kg, had him stitched up for 1.5hrs before they finally got the tag in.
Troy said that most action was just on the shipping line (35fths) out to about 45fths. A great day on the water!!
Bermagui Shimano Bluewater Classic
Darren Buttigieg reports from Bermagui and the tournament on the weekend that the fishing was quite consistent and looks good for the season ahead.
A fair bit of bait ball action and mostly stripes with the odd black marlin for his first trip in his new boat Happy Hour and a great way to christen the new boat taking out the the 80th Anniversary of the Bluewater Classic!
Darren’s crew were Pat, Andrew and Ray competing alongside 80 boats and taking out: Highest Point Scoring T&R Boat, Hghest T&R Group Team, Highest Point Scoring Angler as well as the Most Momentous T&R Angler. Awesome! Well done Darren and Happy Hour team!!
