Well after a big fish day tournament fishing, it was time for a small fish day. In fact, the smallest of the fish reported yesterday was a teeny 70lbs on board Reel Chase for angler Tom Jarvis.  While most of the fish recorded were around the 200lb mark, the big fish for the day was another for Janice Eggins on Althaldo that they put at 600lbs.

But there were still big fish on the reef. Outside of the competition, and after an uneventful start to their season in the north, the private boat Too Easy, based on the Gold Coast with Capt. Russell Gaugem weighed a fish for owner/angler Robbie Crane that went 1153lbs the fish having died during the fight.  This great fish has been 20 years in the making for Robbie who first began fishing off Cairns as a junior angler – and a big congratulations to you Robbie! You may remember that Too Easy returned to the reef last year after a few years absence (read the report here). They fished the tournament last year and encountered several big fish then as well.

Back to the tournament: Overall there were 14 fish tagged for the day with two a piece on Little Audrey (Day 5 Champions) who started the day with the first fish, Calypso (Mustard on Iona 2 took this great shot below of Tim fighting one of their fish from nearby), Kanahoee and Kalira. Right through to several on one including Billy The Kid who ended the point scoring for the day with a 200lb-er for US captain Eric Soderholm.

Congratulations to Enrnesto Bertarelli fishing on board Kalira who tagged two marlin and getting one of his satellite tags into the second – the second participant of the tournament for the great marlin race.

Top Shot is clear in front still on 7 tags from Bite Me, Althaldo and Kanahoee on 5 each in that order. Onsite, Viking, Little Audrey, Calypso and Moana have 4 tags each and Askari, Everwiling and Reel Chase are on 3. Afishionado, Iona 2, The Outlaw, Mistress and Kalira are on 2. And Carolyn, Hellraiser, Lucy West, Think Big and Billy The Kid are on 1 each.
