Another big day on the GBR with fishing for Day 3 of the Bertram Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic. Opposite to the previous day, the hot fishing on day was during the later part of the day with the same total number of tags again – 16 for the day – recorded.
Janice Eggins was first on the board and added another two tags on Day 3 to take Althaldo to 4 tags and put her well in front in the Champion Lady Angler race. There were some nice fish recorded for the other lady anglers on Day 3 as well. Tina on board Reel Chase released a fish they put at 850lbs while regular LI lady angler Sue Ahlers on Hellraiser released a 700lb black marlin in the final minutes of fishing.
The team on board Bite Me were also in early adding another two to bring their total to four as well (700 and 400lbs). They got in first to two to make them the Day 3 winners.
Ever consistent in this comp, Top Shot added another two smaller fish to bring their tournament tally to 6 while Capt. Tim Dean’s Calypso got on the board with a nice fish that Tim put at 750lbs to Phil.
Port Hacking boats Everwilling and The Outlaw scored a fish a piece within minutes of each other and big congratulations to John Vandenheuvel, doing the hard yards and fishing solo on Carolyn (and camping at Watson’s Bay!) for tagging his first for the comp yesterday as well.
I snapped this shot (at top) of Onsite’s 250lb-er for Graham from nearby.
The current leader board standings are: Top Shot is in the lead on 6. On 4 each are Bite Me on count back from Althaldo. Onsite is on 3 tags on count back from Kanahoee. On two each are Askari, Viking II, Everwilling, Reel Chase and Little Audrey. And on 1 each are Iona II, Moana III, CGirl, The Outlaw, Carolyn, Afishionado, Calypso and Hellraiser.
Broome Fires
What we’ve come to expect at this time of year is word that the sailfish are firing off Broome. And they are again with Broome GFC reporting well over 70 sails and approximately 11 marlin released between 5 boats yesterday. Makaira Game Fishing had a ripper of a day and released 20 sailfish and 8 black marlin for just two anglers on board~! Jourdain “Jeda” Ellens sent me this great shot below from one of the sails. Hot hot hot!
