Some awesome dogtooth tuna photos from on board Castille III who have been popper fishing and jigging this week.
With just one day to count down now before the start of the 25th Lizard Island Black Marlin Classic, those sneaky fish are hiding themselves for the one extra day. It was certainly quieter along the reef yesterday with a number of boats heading into Cooktown for changeover before heading up to the Rock (Lizard Island) today.
A few other boats, us included, raised smaller fish but I didn’t hear of any more caught. We fished alongside Bobby Jones’ Iceman, the newly white (which will take me a while to get used to) Reel Chase as well as a host of smaller boats enjoying the great weather, including Nickers (at only 5.2m) who recently won the Overall Champion Boat at the Cairns BlueWater 6kg Tournament.
Up the top at Number 10 Ribbon, we have a boat visiting from the USA by the name of Mea Culpa who released an estimated 300lb black marlin in the middle of Number 10. Thanks to Dave for the report – wishing you many more fish throughout your stay!
So, so much for taking photos of black marlin on our first day out, I got plenty of photos of boats instead! Above is one shot of Brilliant Company unfortunately taken much after they released their fish. I’m taking a heap of photos each day for the Season Daily Digest which is a photo postcard that goes out to subscribers by email each weekday to document the season in pictures. Here’s the first one from yesterday. If you would like to sign up to receive the daily email or, if you need to update your newsletter preferences, you can do so here. Don’t forget to check the “Check also to receive the Season Daily Digest” checkbox.
By the way, if you’re wondering where the inspiration for the Daily Digest came from, you surf, enjoy surf and beach images or are just a lover of good photography in general–>Check out the Aquabumps website. UGE gives me a dose of inspiration daily through his photos which are just downright awesome!
