Thank you Michael for writing this:
A fishing legend left us last Friday – Geoff Ferguson who began commercial fishing off the Gold Coast in his red Haines Hunter in the 70’s and became a legend fishing the Queensland coast on Reef Hunter, Reef Hunter 2, Cervantes, Kamari and Inkwazi to name a few, passed away on Friday.
For many years Fergie was a fixture at the rock (Lizard Island) between September and December and achieved many notable captures with his past crew who include Andy Vinnicomb, his nephew Greg (Muddy) Edwards, Dean Beach, Brad Bobbamien, Peter Williams and many other noted past and present characters of the reef.
Geoff was also one of the pioneers of the blue marlin fishery off Brisbane alongside Bill (The Eagle) Edwards and Ken (Brownie) Browne.
Geoff was an inspirational fisherman and it did not matter whether it was whiting in the Broadwater, tailor in the surf or 1000lb black marlin he was always happy to let you in on most of his secrets.
We miss you already Geoff but we know you will be looking down on us with those piercing blue eyes from that great flybridge in the sky.

Our sincere condolences to Tricia and to all of Geoff’s family and friends. A wake will be held on Thursday, 2nd June at 2pm at 91 Obrien Rd, Pullenvale, Brisbane. The funeral beforehand is family only.

I read with great sadness of the passing of geoff. As a result of viewing a photo of Kamari my son sent to me last week I took the chance to google Geoff Ferguson and was shocked to read of his very recent passing.
My connection with Geoff was back in the eighties when he often captained cervantees / reef hunter . I chartered with Geoff both here in Brisbane and at lizard isl.
I later went on to purchase my gameboat INNKEEPER .
I remember Geoff as a real gentleman always wanting to impart his great knowledge .. Just a great man
